No scooterists, but it was 1998, before the scooters came back to the market here in the USA.įrom what I remember, one or two people dropped out before the second range riding day, and I think one guy failed, but he didn't seem to be too good at listening to instructions (somehow he got himself riding in the wrong direction in one of the group exercises, which caused the instructors to emergency stop the whole class to yell at him). My class was pretty much a mix of young first time riders, Harley dudes who never got a license, and a couple of women who wanted to ride with their boyfriends. Sure, each class has a mix of riders with different goals. Yes, the class will have a rider or two who has NEVER mounted a bike! the instructors are riders with decades and thousands of miles of experience, and most of all, tons of experience with novice or even first time riders. I really don't know why so many people are so against learning from experts. But the biggest challenge to slow tight cornering is slipping the clutch around the friction point, giving you just enough momentum to stay upright without giving you too much speed at all. I think one of the things about the DMV test is the slow and tight maneuvers, which are a challenge on most machines if you haven't been taught the tricks (some of which I cannot remember after 17 years).
If I could give 20 thousand thumbs up for the MSF course, I would.
